2016 Civic Grants
Palm Beach Gardens Fire Rescue: Our 2016 Grant will fund the purchase of an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV), commonly referred to as a “Drone”. The UAV will provide live aerial video intelligence during high risk emergency operations. This technology will give incident commanders a significant advantage in making critical tactical decisions that directly affect the life safety of citizens and emergency personnel. Without aerial surveillance, firefighters currently search for fires on foot through difficult terrain. With a UAV’s live video footage, incident commanders can direct firefighters to the exact location of fires thereby significantly reducing the amount of time it takes to mitigate the emergency. In addition, structural firefighting operations would also benefit from UAV technology by allowing incident commanders to see hidden fire dangers beneath a roof structure prior to sending firefighters on top of unstable structures. This decision is currently made using a “best guess” assumption. Also, hurricane and severe storm damage assessment would be more expeditiously handled by allowing crews to avoid unnecessary roadway debris. The aerial video footage would allow crews to quickly see a “birds-eye” view of the damage and make a more informed decision on deploying critical resources to locate victims.
Palm Beach Gardens Police Department: The City of Palm Beach Gardens has many parks, canal banks, walking trails, and protected areas that are open to the public. These areas provide our residents with opportunities to enjoy the outdoors, bond with nature, and enjoy all the health benefits that being outside provides. These areas also, however, provide a potential for problems related to safety, including: missing children and adults; injured persons in remote areas; illegal activities sheltered by these concealed and remote locations. Our 2016 Grant will fund the purchase of an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) which will be used to patrol those remote properties in and around the City. The vehicle’s ability to travel in areas which are hard to reach by conventional vehicles will allow the officers to cut response time dramatically and act as a force multiplier in these remote locations. The All-Terrain Vehicle will also be available to assist in the operational needs of the City’s Fire Rescue Department, and other law enforcement agencies. This may include, but is not limited to, joint training, special events, and operations with Jupiter, Juno Beach, North Palm Beach, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, and the Palm Beach County School District.
Palm Beach Gardens Recreation Department: Palm Beach Gardens offers a wonderful array of educational, recreational and cultural programs to its residents and it is an important factor in attracting new residents and businesses to our community. BallenIsles is proud to be a major residential community in town and will continue to provide a complimentary community cultural art experience for the public in 2017. For the 5th year, our grant will continue to support the BallenIsles Performance Series at Veterans Plaza. Over the past 4 years, over 3000 people have attended these free cultural programs including: Ballroom to Broadway Series 2013, The Complete Works of Shakespeare (Abridged) 2014, William Shakespeare, A Midsummer’s Night Dream 2015, EDGAR, Unmasking a Genius (The Life of Edgar Allan Poe) 2016 and in early 2017, will once again partner with the Palm Beach Shakespeare company for a performance to be determined.
