Who We Fund

The BallenIsles Charities Foundation awards grants to nonprofit and tax-exempt organizations working within Northern Palm Beach County. With the goal of Making a Difference, our Foundation provides financial support to organizations in the Civic, Health & Human Services, Environment, and Education areas. Since its inception, the BallenIsles Charities Foundation, Inc. has awarded over $8 million to 95 organizations in Northern Palm Beach County.

Important information about our grant process:

Grants are awarded PRIMARILY for projects or programs with specific budgets and measurement criteria. General operating expenses, personnel salaries, or overhead expenses will not be funded.

The Foundation welcomes and encourages projects that have multiple sources of funding along with strong support from an organization’s Board of Directors.

Funding commitments are made on a year-to-year basis. We do not commit to fund multi-year projects or programs. Applicant organizations are welcome to apply each year for possible funding.

Applications received from organizations located outside our geographic area will only be considered if the clients served by implementation of their grant award are located in our geographic service area.

We Do NOT Fund:

Grants to 501 (c) (3) organizations that are not in good standing with the IRS.

Grants for sectarian or religious purposes unless the applicant organization demonstrates that the project or program is non-denominational and open to all. Further, the project must not include religious programming or faith-based requirements for participation.

Grants to national organizations unless funds are for the local chapter with a local Board of Directors, and, the grant will benefit local residents.

Grants to 501 (c) (4) organizations.

Grants to lobby legislation or to influence public policy or elections.

Grants to organizations whose administrative costs (including professional fundraising services and/or solicitation costs) exceed 25%.

Where We Fund

All applicants must be qualified not-for-profit or tax-exempt organizations located and serving people living in Palm Beach County, Florida from Jupiter in the North to West Palm Beach in the South.

Applications received from organizations located outside our geographic area will only be considered if the clients served by implementation of the grant award are located in our geographic service area.

July 8, 2024

Full grant application requests due from applicants. Applications received after this date will not be considered for 2024 grants.

March 2025

Notification of Denial or Acceptance of Grant Request

Upon completion of the review of the applications, applicants will be notified if their grant request was either denied or accepted for consideration of a grant.

Priorities & Process

In determining the merits and priority of an application, particular consideration will be given to:

  • The seriousness of the problem and adequacy of the proposed program or project action
  • The capability of the organization and its personnel to achieve expected results
  • The degree of potential benefit to the community

After a review and discussion of all grant requests, the Grants Committee will present to the Foundation Board of Directors an assessment of all applications it would like considered for funding. Even though a project meets established criteria, it may not be selected because of limited funds or other reasons.

THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS MAKES THE FINAL DETERMINATION ON ALL GRANT REQUESTS.

Grant Awards

After a grant request is approved by our Board, the selected organization will be notified. At that time, the organization will be asked to grant us permission to announce the future award, the amount of which will be determined as a result of our fundraising events. Although all selected organizations will receive a financial grant, the amount may not be the full amount requested.

Recipients are required to sign a Grant Agreement Letter which details the responsibilities of the recipient organization. Grant checks will be distributed in March.

Following the grant award, recipients are required to complete a Grant Accountability Report detailing how their Grant Award was spent and measured against projected goals.
